  1. I don't know a lot about the bike, but I know we wish we still had it! But the pic is of my sister when she rode for Blazer in Houston, TX in the early 80's. Previous to that she rode a Nomura...that she did hold onto for years. In fact, she sold that to a collector just a few years ago!
  2. It's crazy to look back and realize that Steve Veltman, John Purse, and Randy Spangler all started off racing for my dad in their earliest days before all going on to some great, long careers!
  3. Just stumbled across this thread and love it! I thought I'd add a few photos I was just sharing with an old friend. I've posted most of them on here before but in a different thread. Thought they may be worth sharing again. They are from the late 70's and early 80's in Spring, TX. My parents owned Ben's Bikes and Cross-Up BMX. Enjoy!
  4. Yes, 117 was under Tex-3 and G24 was national. And yes, she was very fast! That explains the factory sponsor. Not many girls got factory rides back then!
  5. I'm really not sure about that bike. She rode a Nomura most of the time, until she got a factory sponsor from Blazer. I am going to have to ask her and my dad what they remember about that bike.
  6. Here are a few more pictures of the bike from back then. I would love to find some tires like those to put back on. Since I am new to all of this, does anyone have a suggestion on where to look for something like that?
  7. This is the only other picture of the Blazer I can find. I will check with my sister and dad because they may have more. This is Kelly riding her Nomura And this is Kelly winning on her Nomura
  8. Let me take a look...I am sure there are more pics of it. She rode a Nomura my dad built her for a few years and then was offered a factory sponsor from Blazer. I remember coming home on a Monday afternoon from an away race that weekend and there was a brand new Blazer in a huge box sitting on the front porch! That would be that bike! I found Mike Maberry's personal email address yesterday and dropped him a note with that pic attached. He replied right back that he remembered Kelly and even has video footage of the 1983 Amarillo Nationals of the whole Blazer team racing. I told him I'd love to get a copy of that!
  9. I wasn't "feeling out" anything other than whether to sell it complete or part it out. And I was never selling it for $50-100...my sister was because she had no idea anyone would want it. That is why I am here! And if you f'in hate this shit and the internet then why do you spend so much time on it??? I' m just trying to get some info, share some stories, and post some old pics. But dealing with this crap is why I usually don't bother.
  10. Ya, I have a bunch of those too! Its just a matter of digging through them, scanning them, uploading, and labeling them. I started with a bunch of random pics under another thread (Cross-Up BMX...)but hope to get more on here as time permits.
  11. Wow, take it easy guys!!! I found this thread interesting in light of just realizing that my sister still had her Nomoura from all those years ago. Yes, she does want to sell it. But that was not the point of this post. I just wanted advice on whether it would be better to sell it whole or in parts. And clearly everyone here feels it should stay intact. Once I have a better idea of what to do with it it will be posted in the proper place...not here!
  12. Ya, I was thinking I should probably do that sooner than later. I know my sister wants to sell it. In fact, she was going to just put it on Craigslist or at a garage sale for like $50-$100!!!! Now I just need to figure out if its better to sell it as a complete bike the way it is now or part it out individually.
  13. Thanks to silverhw for correcting my first (possibly of many) errors in posting. That is actually pro rider Harry Leary with me, and not Stu Thomsen.
  14. Robby Wyatt, Richie Wolf, & Eric Lacey on starting gate at Cross-Up BMX Ben's Bikes Team Banner at Nationals Okay, I saved this picture for last! This is Steve Veltman at the ABA Banquet in probably 1981 or 1982 maybe. When Steve first moved to Texas and started racing it was actually for my dad. He rode for Ben's Bikes at Cross-Up BMX. After a short time he moved over to World of Wheels in Conroe and made Armadillo Downs his home track. But we never lost touch with Steve and he continued to race at our track as well. When we left Houston in 1983 everyone threw a huge going away party and Steve was there. Someone had a photo album full of pictures that people could look through and write a note next to their pic. Well, this pic of Steve was in there and he wrote "Really Ben! Did you have to move? Steve" I don't know what's funnier...how young Steve looks, that jacket, or the girl's hair behind him?!?
