  1. Yes indeed, I gave this complete bike 'back' to Greg. I worked at GHP when he got his company going, cleaning, polishing and stickering up the new frames and forks. Boxed them up for shipping and pretty much doing all the warehouse stuff. We were friends form all the way back when he first started around 1975 or so. This frame was his first design for a 24" cruiser and I believe we decided the bottom bracket was too low. I think he redesigned it and raised the bottom bracket up. I had quit racing in 79 but continued to race a couple time a year after. I had not raced in a while and had never raced a cruiser but I raced this one once, It was a USBA SoCal national in October of 84. I guess Brett Allen(?) and Marvin Church, both racing for mongoose, were a big deal at this time. I beat them both in my first moto and I guess I pissed off Skip Hess and the whole Mongoose team for doing so. LOL I didn't do so well in the main but didn't care, I had some fun. I did end up with a great picture from the day. Anyway, fast forward to 2022. I'm newly retired after 40 years with UPS and I need to thin out my 'stuff'. I rolled up to Greg's house and handed him this complete bike, pretty mush just as I raced it. Probably a prototype frame, one of (insert a small number here) of those GHP bars. I have plenty of special bikes, Greg deserves this one.
  2. I've poked around a bit and can't seem to find a thread that discusses the GT/CYC connection. Someone contacted me and asked and I don't remember the details but I seem to remember an explanation here somewhere. Any ideas? I've found threads that discuss Pedals Ready GTs and others that discuss the Ames Stormer, but I can't find the story about the connection.
  3. Wow. That's an awesome way to get a complete set! I have a few laying around somewhere too.
  4. An event that was as impactful as anything that has come before. I was truly blessed to be part of it.
  5. While looking for a picture to scan for a request, I came across a few that had never been scanned before. It's hard to believe after all these years of posting pics on the net, that I still have some that have not been seen. I do not know the photographer, it's an 8X10 that I'll assume someone handed to me. This is about mid-way down the Corona track, and I don't know the situation but there are no other hacks in sight. I can tell it's early on in my hack racing (probably summer of 1976) because of what I see on the hack. The first modification we made was to cut down the height of the hack push bar. Also, for a very short time, I ran front suspension. (cool, but not necessary and imagine the extra weight to an already overweight beast) Anyway, the first picture is new to the viewing world. It's crystal clear and a nice portrait. The race picture is halfway through Corona's first turn with Coy Hudson and quite possibly his brother Dale as monkey behind us. The last picture is the hack in my front yard. Steve Brothers, I do not know why the first picture is loading sideways. It's fine in my files and it loaded fine on FB? Can you help out here?
  6. Thank you Mell. Your pictures are indeed epic! It's almost like I was there,
  7. I grew up in North Long Beach and was actively riding my Schwinn stingray right past there on Pacific Coast Hwy on weekends and summer days heading to Seal Beach to surf. I discovered BMX at Western Sports Arama (WSA) right after BUMS closed. For the past 35 years my UPS route is literally across the street from the original track, south west of PCH and Bellflower. Where you see the word Bellflower, that is my route. LOL
  8. I used Bendix red band hubs on most all my race bikes and had no clue they were that thick. Although I was never all that concerned about weight or 'trickness' back then. I just wanted sturdy components. LOL I also do not ever recall that seat post clamp set up. Brilliant!!!!! I'm lovin the time period rust on the seat guts too, very authentic. ;-)
  9. Very cool. I love how you can go pretty much anywhere and BMX people are family. It is great common ground. Looks like fun.
  10. Cool video, great quality. But I'm not sure I could ride that slow. LOL!!!!! I am actually envious of those who can ride slow and enjoy the moment. Between 38 years of a fast paced day to day work ethic as a delivery driver for UPS doing between 160 and 220 delivery stops a day and it just feels right to ride a bike fast, I find it difficult to ride slow. (but that's just me) Again, cool stuff.
  11. Wow, an amazing variety of bikes there. So many 20"ers there. Not an easy cruise on the smaller bikes. It was no big deal when we were teen agers, it was what was done. But 24" and 26" are so much more comfortable....for me anyway. :-) I was going to ask where you guys are but I looked at you member id and see you are down under. If you have any pics showing your location, something would be of interest to the rest of us up here, add them on please.
  12. I really need to focus. I suck at keeping my word. I was reading through just the last page of this thread and it has taken 3 F'ing years to get this far. Damn! So sticking with some Bob Osborn stories and photos.... this is from a photo shoot at Yarnell for the side hack interview in the second issue of BMXA. This falls into the "I wish I could see all the photos Bob took that were not good enough for the magazine". He went through rolls of film at every shoot. This particular jump was one of those "Dennis, could you do that one more time?" We must have pushed the hack up the hill and hit this jump at least a dozen times. He told me what he was attempting to capture. A normal panning shot, like the one Windy took of us at Corona's first turn, where the photographer follows the subject going by and captures a crisp image with a blurred background giving the concept of speed. Bob told me he was trying to do the same thing with us coming directly at him. He said he had to zoom, focus and shoot at the same time. He told me later he was not able to achieve the affect he wanted but I would love to see what his version of 'not good enough' was. I can only imagine....
  13. I just posted on a thread and it seemed way easy to post content and photos. I may have to jump start my old thread and get busy again. I just grabbed a tacky 'sign of the times' photo of me from 78. LOL
