So then there need not be ANY NOS stuff that is preserved? All of it is "just parts"? I will never understand that logic.... never. Once a part is installed, it is just another used part.....
just a thought.i didnt say thats what i would do.
I here what everyone is saying....but a killer NOS part looks even more killer attached to a NOS frame, fork, and wheelset???. I don't think I would ride a bike "regularly" that was rare, and NOS before building...but I guarantee I would build it! What good is holding an NOS Cook Brothers stem in your hand??? It was meant to hold a set of handlebars. NOTHING LOOKS BETTER THAN A MINT, ALL NOS BUILD! Now if you start riding it recklessly...that's an entirely different story. Putting Nos parts through wear and tear is not something I would consider.
You really have to look to the classic car community for justification....What would look cooler....A guy pulling in to a lot with a MINT 426 Hemi Cuda or the same guy bringing the car in "pieces" on a trailer???? And we're talking about classic cars that are worth tens of thousands of dollars, not bicycles. What does a "SUPER HIGH END" bike part cost....a thousand bucks??? Or about the same as a months interest on a mortagage??? Life is short guy's when your dead ,that "priceless" part you're saving might be sold at a family garage sale for 5 bucks....Think about it.
