  2. They're the coolest frame nobody likes and the rarest one with no value ): I have one. Japanese made, I believe, despite the riveted badge. Modified track dropouts and excellent construction. Were paired with a Tange ARX fork.
  3. His SX race concept was really dowdy looking. I offered my assistance (design degree from just up the road) but no response. I agree that the graphics are uninspiring and wonder why freestyle seats need to look like they came off a Schwinn AirDyne. The bars are re-pops. I do like the idea of having a 'craft BMX" segment, but am not sure there's a real market...unless people are in love with your past.
  4. As an outsider, I'll add my observations. Truth be told, I like a good discussion, but when folks take it personally and resort to insults, I move on. BMXers, current and retro, aren't very inclusive people. Competition is the basis of this sport, and that involves determining who's the 'winner' and who all the 'losers' are. People who are attracted to the black-or-white, win/lose nature tend to look for reasons to disagree. They want people to believe the way they do and they want people to behave the way they believe people should behave. And they seek division. We could all band together in our love of old-school BMX, but we don't. OF COURSE we all have more in common than we have differences, but there are still factions, because some folks are hard-wired for conflict. XC guys hate downhillers who hate roadies who hate freestylers who hate racers who hate... etc, etc. You either look for the good in things or you look for reasons to disapprove. This isn't life and death and it doesn't solve the World's problems. If you can't find ways to appreciate how everyone finds joy in each cycling niche, I strongly suggest you try harder, because life is short and it's a waste not to enjoy as much as possible.
  5. Just a project for fun. Blurry pics, sorry. Tried to honor the original design cues as much as possible. I get to build some BMX, on occasion, for fun.
  6. What years had the 'Scot Industries' sticker on the seat tube? Did any other models receive that decal?
  7. Mike Scott scored a quadruple at a national, so he was kinda fast. One-speed bike, I think. If I had my BMXAs handy, I'd find the pic.
  8. Contender, It's all related. You hate couterfitters, but buyers are driving up prices, making counterfitting worthwhile. So, should folks pick up cheap items and flip them, or not? Folks don't want to talk about money, but I don't see how this dicussion happens without talking money.
  9. Is it wrong to buy and flip parts that you don't want in your collection, or should you let those parts sell to someone who may cherish them, at below-market value? Think about that.
  10. When you're poor and you collect newspapers and cats, they ridicule you. When you collect homes and cars and money that you'll never use, you're a hero. I happiest people I know collect experiences and memories shared with other people.
  11. I don't think what's-his-face (too lazy to page back and find out) was trying to insult as much as everybody thinks. Collectors collectively agreed that these old things are worth a lot of money. The "Varsity" comment makes the point: nobody repops Pro Thunders and counterfitters don't print $1 bills. If you drive the value of something up, expect fakes, that's all. I don't think that too many Champion owners are upset that someone out there might be fooled by the authenticity of these new frames. A few might, but I doubt that's the problem. Really, they don't their investment to lose its value when the market is flooded with more parts. I'm not saying that's bad or good, but it is what it is. Their demand created the value... and it brought the crooks out of the woodwork. It's always gonna be like this. I have a Champion short-tracker with super rare Tracy bodywork, and even rarer Monotrack cast wheels and disk caliper, and I doubt that all of it is worth what a Champion BMX frame goes for... because the demand is so low.No love = no value = no fakes. I'm not gonna retire on it's value and I'm not worried about any repoppers (;
  12. Agreed that these should be irreversibly different from the originals. As a framebuilder, I have to say that their fixtures are the worst I've ever seen.
  13. What do you think should be done with original tubesets? Seems a shame for them to sit in boxes.
  14. I'm pretty sure than any amount of rare is undone by making us look at your ugly-ass toes. Don't blame me, it's in the Bible.
