  1. Steve was correct - it was a RRS Frame and fork kit that was owned by DY at one time... DY was sponsored by RRS in 1980 (for about half the year - this was when he was am... This is covered on the Wikipedia page for DY. For those not familiar with the RRS, the rear drop outs were fixed (think road bike) and the American BB was split on the bottom. Then Aluminum cups were installed that would hold a standard euro square taper BB for 3 piece cranks - the holes for the euro BB were drilled off center, so that the whole assembly could be rotated - thus tightening the chain - and the split would be tightened down via two braze on mounts - This type of setup is common on the front set of cranks on tandem bikes. For RRS BMX bike, the chain/rear wheel set up meant the wheel base was always the same. The cranks moved around and could be set in the "high" position or the "low" position when adjusting the chain tension. This also meant the brake position didn't change. You could generally go up or down a tooth on the front or the rear very easily. Much more than that, and you were swapping the chain out - back then, the half link either didn't exist or wasn't well known. The rear brakes were true Canti Brakes with a center arc wire, and I am 90% sure the brake arms were custom made for the RRS, as I don't think canti brakes were very common back then (on any bikes) Last unique feature was "safety" drop outs for the forks - they sort of had a hood or shroud around where the axel nut went, so even if you just put the front wheel on hand tight, it wouldn't fall off the bike... (I know it has never been an issue, but that was what RRS called a feature)
  2. Minor correction - My Mr. BMX Cruiser had a JMC Sticker kit on it - so that it could be raced due to there not being a true JMC Cruiser avail at a race for DY... the bike was loaned out for a local event and had no stickers on it at all - so the JMC Stickers were applied in case some photographs were taken. The JMC that should have been used was lost by the airlines or something... My Mr. BMX was a 24" chrome frame and fork kit (maybe the bars were Mr. BMX as well?) It wasn't a complete and I swapped a bunch of parts around on it. The really sad thing is that I can't recall who I sold it to - but I have been told it is still floating around the town where I grew up... Mr. BMX was a guy in Salem, Oregon... I can find pictures if anyone wants - the actual "Mr. BMX" guy did race cruiser. Further - I did possess a DY RRS Frame and fork set for a summer - can't remember the circumstances in which I had it in my possession, but it was cool - the BB Cups were notched and it had a bearing set which allowed it to run 1 piece cranks... Unrelated....The coolest thing I have right now is a Pinarello 20" from Europe - it is basically a Cycle Pro with a sticker kit. And, I still have my Hutch that I raced from 82ish to 88 - I had to locate that bike after 10 years of it floating around town - it is missing the chain, bars, grips and tires from back then... But it still has the Campy BMX Hubs and the ESP Stem from back then... Maybe my next project will be to locate that Mr. BMX... Walt
  3. Uh, you'll need a helmet and brakes on your bike. Let her race with no helmet and no brakes - when she crashes I provide her with "medical assistance" - Including a full "head to toe" exam...
  4. We need the sunny weather to get here soon...
  5. You guys are lackin...You would think the sun was shinning and ou were actually out riding. Yep
  6. As an aside, last night I had a dream that I had a hot girl fiend that could also work on bikes (including the ability to tru a wheel)... Like this:
  7. PI in Port Orchard only racing Saturday Mornings during April and part of May (no Friday Night and no Sun Morn) ... Signups on Sat changed to 10 - 11am, so you can hit the outdoor tracks after PI
  8. Sea-Tac BMX Opening this weekend... Signups 1:30 to 2:30 - Sat and Sun http://www.seatacbmx.org
  9. Did you pull in to Home Depot and open the sliding door or hire people you know? I already suggested that - He was concerned that they would drink all of his beer... Instead, people like me showed up, did almost no digging, and drank all his beer... (there were people who dug and drank beer, but I wasn't one of the diggers)
  10. I think my Fake ID was "Julio Dukes" or something like that...
  11. Indoor was fun yesterday. Yes. Yes it was. Yep - a good time was had by all
  12. [quote name='Ron Funston' date='01 March 2011 - 05:17 PM' timestamp='1299025033' Sounds like Bourke and No hair did a little Larry Craig toe tapping and then when out for a nice meal. So Ron, refresh my memmory - is Larry Funston (from Oregon) your brother or your Cousin - don't tell me you aren't related... I won't buy that....
  13. Now I know why FIXIE girls put a front brake on their bikes... They just want to be able to do stoppies!
