  1. hey pat; i will be there for both races. last time i was there until almost 5 p.m. see ya tomorrow! dave
  2. here's thee particulars:colorado bmx infos dave
  3. pat, bring two of your pre-'85 bikes out and i will roost on the other one!  i will try to find the link for the track, but downhiller posted the correct location infos already. see you guys saturday, at the ranch! dave
  4. thinkin' i might give this one a turn on the track as well  :hypno: dave
  5. here's my 2-4, all race ready. thanks again to my bro kastanhunter. dave
  6. cool, reilly! are you going to race a new school bike, or are you gonna conquer on that sweet old redline squareback or yours? B) i must confess; going to del mar and seeing all of the sweet old bikes and meeting all the good folks there was really what did it for me. not to mention going over to the track and watching the motos for a while... i said to myself "damn, i can still do that!" and why not? what it really comes down to is do i want to go out stylin' on the lazy-boy recliner, or giving a good fight until it is no longer dignified (more like bad form, actually) to do so? that one is a no brainer. i have had a racing license of some form or other since 1978 (bmx, mtb, road) so the fitness is still there, thank goodness. it is also a real pleasure getting out there with older guys who aren't totally out for blood and have excellent bike handling skills as well. so for anyone else who is thinking about it but still undecided, go for it! bmx racing is a total blast! looking forward to seeing all of you be-backs at a track this year! dave
  7. hey downhiller; i was at the ranch, same as you. i didn't get there early enough to do the first race, so i signed up for the 2nd event. i did get some early practice in which was good. it was awesome watching you crush those guys on your old school bike! i was pointing you out to my bros that came along to watch. that was too much, the way you worked that old bike for the win. (and just so everyone knows, the 30-39 cruiser class looked plenty tough from where i was watching) i am in the old guys (over 40) class, but those dudes are no slouches either! joey guerra has that #1 plate for a good reason, dude is hot for sure. i don't really have a pre '85 bike that i can flail on at the races. the pl-20 is a bit of a trailer queen and has gone m.i.a. since del mar anyway. if something turns up, it would be an honor to roll out onto that gate with you guys. i WILL be there racing next month! thanks mux, i was laughing my a$$ off the whole way around the track in the first moto, i was having so much fun! B) from the looks of things, you and the so cal bros have been working on your dirt jumping skills a bit too! and uhhh btw... has lionel ever seen any of those "don't be that guy" spots on espn? dave
  8. thanks for the encouragement, everyone. i am doing my best to keep the mantra in my mind "don't be that guy" with the comeback to bmx racing. start out slow and see how things progress, not end up being injured and missing out on racing all summer or something like that. i do have plans ot race the 20" bikes as well, they were what i preferred bitd. cruiser class always was a 2nd priority. i am starting with the 24" because it is closer in size to the road bikes and mountain bikes i have been racing for a lot of years. once more skills are re-acquired, i will bust out the 2-0. i put on some clipless pedals today and did some ice riding on the streets in town. i wish now that i had used them when i raced, but there is always next time. way more power hook up to the back wheel, and it is easier to hold the front end up as well. randy; the tracks were like goat trails, but definitely no goats. check out the undergrowth in this photo from countryside bmx in escanaba. goats would have been a big help for track maintenance... photo credit: c. andy gregg, somtime about 1980 or so. i am wondering if any of the colorado bros are going to show up next time to fill out the gates? hello? where are you guys? :cowboy: dave
  9. hey bcal; probably the best thing to do is to try to ignore how fast and skilled the kids are. more like don't be intimidated, but watch and learn from the hot shoes. maybe take your bike and helmet sometime and pay the $5 to get some gate practice. if jr. sees the old man out there like you said... well you know the rest. i can't even begin to tell you how much fun it was getting out there and ripping it again. keep us posted on how your first time back on the track goes as well. cheers, dave p.s. thanks justin
  10. sorry t, i couldn't resist. the abbreviation stands for New Old Stock, although the definition will vary greatly depending on the bro-ness or shadiness of any given seller. and welcome to the board! dave
  11. signed up to race. took the gate for the first time in 8 years, to turn my pedals in anger. i must admit that i felt more than a bit nervous at first, but then the old skills started coming back. just like riding a bike, or something like that. managed to get enough gates and practice that the queasy feeling in the pit of my stomach finally went away by the time racing was about to start. the jumping skills are still good, but my gate definitely needs some work. and i'm gonna have to switch to clipless as much as i would prefer not to, i'm losing too much power not using 'em. i didn't get smoked nearly as bad as i thought i would. in fact, i was right in the mix for the most part, going against guys who have stayed with bmx racing all along. no crashes, and i can still get air. man, i am hooked again! that was the most fun i have had at the races in a long time. now with a bit more track time and some practice gates, maybe drop in on some more local races and maybe a national or two... heh heh heh. dave p.s. the "new school" tracks are sure a lot nicer than most of the old bumpy, grass covered goat trails we used to race on bitd. just amazing.
  12. hey ken; those were contract work for someone else. stay tuned for what i have been working on lately... dave p.s. this topic probably should be moved to wrenching and rebuilding if any mods are listening. thanks
  13. thanks for the nice comments everyone! 22 lbs. even, and i haven't installed the ti spindle yet. dave
