  1. This guy has some amazing pieces of bmx history!!

  2. I know I'm a little late from when the thread started, but am just seeing it for the first time--thanks Christian. I've been going through my bmx stuff, getting stuff out to take pics to put up for sale in the morning, and thought I'd snap a pic of some of my favorite Forks. Notice the Speedos and Cycle Pros are both undrilled; the Webcos are NOS and came with my NOS '76 Webco Prototype Frame--which this NOS Webco Prototype Frame/Fork is going to be in the sale I'm putting up in the morning(I wish I had a regular set of Webco Forks to put them side-by-side just to make sure there isn't something unique about these Forks making them Prototype Forks too); and then the rest of the Forks in the pic, well I'm sure you guys recognize the rest of them too(the rest are all NOS except for the Profab Forks). I might be putting a set or two of these Forks in my sale. I don't want to get rid of any of them, but I've got other bmx stuff calling my name, and need some quick $$! I'm sure most of you guys know how that is. ;) Has anyone ever seen a set of the Curved LRV Forks that have the dropouts on the reverse side of the Fork??? I've seen an ad for them, but never seen a Set, and always wondered if they ever put them into production. I don't have an LRV in my collection, and don't plan on building one, but if I could find one of those Forks I would definitely do an entire LRV build around it! Same with the FMF Fork! If I could find one of those, I would definitely do an FMF Build. I would actually like to build an FMF anyway, because I love FMF's, but don't want to build it without the Fork, so I guess I'm waiting to find the Fork before I go ahead with acquiring anything else for the build. The most important Fork I'm trying to find is the Speedo Fork for the 5" Headtube. If anyone has one of those, please get ahold of me!
  3. There are some great Jerseys on here guys--stuff I've never seen before and didn't know existed! Thanks For Sharing! Here are a few of my favorites I've acquired over the past few years. >The 1st Gen SE Jersey was Scot Breithaupt's Spare Jersey(which I'm assuming is why it doesn't have his name and sponsors stitched on). He pulled it out of his Gear Bag and gave it to a fan in 1979 after he spoke with him for a while immediately after a race, who kept it all these years and then sold it to me only a couple of years ago(30 years after it was given to him). >This FMF Jersey belonged to Savitski obviously, but I wish I knew more about it. I've never seen another All-Gold FMF Jersey, and would love to know the significance of it, so if anyone knows anything about it, please let me know. >This Champion Pic shows the complete Uniform(Helmet & Pants on top, and matching Jersey on the bottom left). Then, on the bottom right is a NOS Champion Jersey with Orange Lettering(and the "O" is oddly tilted), which I believe to be a later version(maybe closer to '83 I'd guess?). Other than the sponsors you see on the front, it has a large "O'NEAL USA" logo down the sleeves.
  4. You guys have posted some great pics on here! Even though I've been obsessed with mid '70's bmx for a while now, I've got to post some pics I love from the late '70's! First of all, I had to post this home pic of what appears to just be a proud kid with his brand new bike! I don't know who this is(I think it is a collector on the forums today), but this kid in the pic had better taste than any kid I've ever seen!!! If I were to build what I'd consider to be my perfect FMF, I don't think I'd change anything--I'd want it to look just like this!!! Here is another one of my favorites...Stu and PK racing! And, my favorite part about it is the beautiful Blue/Brown Haro Plates! They're the same colors, but in opposite places..just like one of their bikes is Blue w/Brown/Tan Decals, the other Brown w/Blue Decals! I love both Plates, and would love to find a Blue/Brown Haro Plate for one of my '70's SE Builds...if I had to choose a favorite it would be close, but I think I like Stu's the best because the Brown is ligher--almost Tan(and I think it would go better on the build of mine I envision putting it on)! Wouldn't it be great if both of these complete bikes had survived and were on display somewhere?! And finally, here's another SE Pic--look at all of that beautiful SE Blue & Brown!!!!! Again, there are those beautiful Haro Plates(PK now has one with a Brown Top/Blue Bottom--he had the opposite in the pic above)! Enough Plate talk though--I just love seeing all of those beautiful Blue & Brown SE's together with their Pilots in the cockpits!!! Oh, and not to mention the Tan SE way over in the corner! I wish I knew what magazine this was in--I'd love a clearer copy to look more closely at a few details!
  5. Hey Rip...that's about exactly what I had, only that's an '85--you can tell by the oval holes in the CMC Rims! The '86 had no holes in the CMC Rims! Eventually, it ended up with a Viscount Dominator Black Seat to replace the Viscount Dyna; and Black Predator "YO!" Grips(with the word "YO!" blanketing the Grip--not the YO! Freestyle '88 Grips) because that's what the guy at the shop put on it instead of the AME Tri's when my partents took it back to replace the grips like the 3rd time I think(remember, I was 7 at the time, so I couldn't go to the bike shop by myself), and then they just put on the "YO!" Grips every time after that! My parents told me they didn't have the Dyna or AME's anymore, so that is why they replaced them with the others, so I had to live with them! ;) Oh, and I almost forgot, the Blue-Label Predator Skinwall Tires were replaced with Red-Label Predator Gumwall Tires, but I didn't know the difference--didn't even remember until I saw the catalog pics with Blue-Labels, because all I remember are my bike having the Red-Labels! In the 8 years I had it, this is all that was replaced! I guess I didn't ride it as much in the later years--not enough to change any parts out..probably no changes after '91! So, as you can see, I loved it just like it was from the moment I got it(hell--I used to sleep with it in my tiny bedroom, right beside my bed, for the first couple of years I had it), and didn't want to change anything on it unless absolutely necessary! Maybe it is just my personality, as today still I'm all about building "Stock" bikes, am all about "correctness", and am matching brands as much as possible on my builds! The only difference is that besides my beloved Mid '80's Predators, I fell in love with '70's BMX, so that is where my main focus is from here on out!
  6. Oh, I almost forgot about my first blunder--it was when I was first buying Predator Parts because I couldn't find my '86 Streetwise...and I was trying to get whatever I could that was close to it in year and/or appearance, because I was afraid I'd never find one after a few weeks of searching with no luck! lol. So, I am to the point where I decide I not only want to build my '86 Black Chrome Predator Streetwise, but I also want to build a few other similar Predators now after seeing all of the other models that were available in '85 and '86, and I'd been online on bmx sites for about a month or two at this point, and some guy talks me into buying these "White Chrome Wheels with NOS Predator Tires on them"! Now, I knew the Predators I knew I was going to build were Black Chrome in color, and I thought that I must've missed an important "White Chrome" one somewhere, so I thought I'd better grab these Wheels and a few other "White Chrome" Parts this guy sold me! So, I bought them, and when I received them I could see spraypaint drips down every part!!! I asked him about them, and he just avoided me! I then felt like an idiot when I learned there was no such thing as "White Chrome"! lol. It turned out OK though--I took some paint remover to the rims, and under them was a NOS Set of Chrome Femcos--I mean PERFECT!!! Maybe this is what he meant by the term "White Chrome"? lol. So, I ended up selling them, and eventually the NOS Predator Tires too, and I think I made back the $$ I paid for them when I was originally dooped into buying them! Anyone else ever been tricked into buying "White Chrome" Parts??? I'm alone on this one, huh? lol.
  7. I agree--I love, well, everything I've seen Roc do! Out of every bmx collector out there, my taste most closely resembles Roc's...but I'll never admit it! lol. We're into so many of the same rare bikes it is ridiculous! But weird enough, he's NOT into Mid '80's Predators too like I am!!! What's the deal with that Roc?! lol. You know Roc, I wish I could get over that hill on my '70's builds! It's not that easy finding rare bike parts here in good 'ole Iowa!!! lol. I feel like I've gotten some of the rarest parts out of the way on a lot of my '70's builds though, but there's always that one or two parts that stifle me for what seems like forever! I know you know what I feel like Roc--you waited like 6 years for that one rare part that you found earlier this year! Now I'm doing the same thing with like 10 of my builds, but it is multiple rare parts on each build, and some of these parts I'm not sure I'll ever find(like 20" Littlejohn Girder Fork; Cal-Pro Superstar Mags; Cook Bros Red/White/Blue #Plate; Cr-Mo Addicks Cranks; etc...the list goes on and on)! I didn't think the Cr-Mo Addicks Cranks would be as difficult to find as the others, since I've heard of at least half a dozen sets being out there over the past 5 years, but haven't found one set yet that I could buy/trade for! I am relatively close to completing at least one '70's build(and I use the word "relatively" loosely, because for me that means 8 months from finishing--lol, and I have to find at least 2 more uber-rare parts to finish it--one of which is these Cr-Mo Addicks Cranks)...but everything else is at least a year from finishing, if not several years! And, like I said, even that one build isn't going to be done any time soon! I'm not "on the verge" of finishing any builds besides a couple of my NOS Mid '80's Predators, which don't get me wrong, I'm super excited to finish them, but I've found my passion in bmx to reside in '70's builds, and it would just be nice to get some of these builds finished, as I feel more of my imagination went into them than did on the Stock Predators!
  8. ***This is my Heartbraking "FIRST-BUILD-BLUNDER" Story!!!*** This is actually BOTH my First & Second Build! lol. And, my ONLY "finished" Build to this point! It's a funny story for anyone who hears it, but for me, it still makes my eyes well-up! I got into collecting somewhere between 3 and 4 years ago, and I just wanted to find my childhood bike--my old '86 Black Chrome Schwinn Predator Streetwise my parents sold on a garage sale! Well, it didn't take long before I was hooked to put it lightly, because I didn't find that Streetwise right away, and after a little research I discovered the Predator Black Shadow, loved it, and I began building a NOS '86 Predator Black Shadow(which I now have all the NOS Stock Parts for, except I'm still waiting to get the last NOS Araya 7L in the mail to be able to put it together--this was actually the first build I started, but I finished the Sting first)! So, I decided I wanted to do a build I could put some of my own influence in(because the Predators came Stock, so I could only build them up with the stock parts if I wanted them to be 'correct' in my mind), and as a Schwinn Predator collector, the next logical progression was to buy a Sting to build up using my own influences and ideas! Well, I guess I have problems with that, because I ended up building this Sting Stock just like I was building the Predators! lol. This Sting is the first build I officially finished(it took me over 3 years of searching relentlessly for all of the NOS Stock Parts to finish it too)!!! I'm working on over a dozen other builds(almost all '70's, as that's where my interest has evolved to--way off from an '86 Predator, but I can't help it, I fell in love with '70's bmx somewhere in there); and for those of you who know me, knows it takes me FOREVER to finish a build, which is the reason none of you ever see me posting builds--because I haven't finished any of them yet!!! Maybe if some of you guys would sell/trade me some of your rare parts, I could finish and post some builds! lol. The reason this Sting is both my First & Second Build is a Heartbreaking one! Like I said, it took me over 3 years to find all of these NOS Parts to build this beautiful MINT '82 Sting w/all NOS Stock Parts(the Frame and Forks are Minty, but are the only 2 parts that aren't NOS--the Frame is repainted in Schwinn's Cardinal Red Paint, not powder, and the Forks are not NOS but are nice enough pass for it if I wasn't honest)! I don't think I could bring myself to build a NOS Sting Frame up, which is why finding this MINT redone one was perfect to build! Here are the pics of Build#1(a Stock Catalog Pic, followed by 2 Pics of my Build): Believe me, the Pics don't do it justice! The lighting is horrible, and you don't get to see any of the NOS Parts close-up! I've got a ton of closer, better pics, but just chose a couple that would show the overall build! And, in the pic is a NOS Team Schwinn Gear Bag and NOS Schwinn Jersey; as well as Mike Poulson's Personal #5 Number Plate(which I only put in the pic as part of the sale pic--he ran that on an '83/'84 Predator Sting, as seen in the '84 Catalog)...and another NOS Type 2 Number Plate I stickered myself, and thought the colors matched the build perfectly, but it didn't look so great when actually on the bike--especially with that Sting V-Bar sticking so far forward, pushing the Number Plate out in the center making it very rounded! Well anyway, the very day that I finished assembling this MINT/NOS '82 Sting and it was complete, I called a friend to tell him about it, and he asked me about the serial#, and I told him the exact number, and he said the Frame was NOT an '82, but instead was a '79 Sting Frame!!! My heart absolutely sank! For over 3 years I'd been collecting NOS '82 Stock Parts to do this build! I said, no, it can't be, "T" in Schwinn Serial#'s means '82! Well then I learned how since Stings were made at the Paramount Factory away from the rest of the Schwinns, they were numbered differently, and where a "T" on any other Schwinn means '82--the "T" on a Sting stands for Tri-Oval!!! So, I now had a '79 Sting with all NOS '82 Sting parts on it!!! What a bummer, huh? I thought I did such a great job and loved the build!!! But, what could I do--I couldn't stand knowing how the Frame was incorrect for the build--constantly reminding me of my blunder! So, I guess I could either... A.) ..find the 8 or so NOS parts I needed to turn it into a MINT/NOS Stock '80 Sting(because the serial# dated it to late '79, so it would have been sold in '80), which would probably cost about close to $1,000 or so(not even counting the NTKK Tires), and completely abandon the Red/Yellow '82 theme... *or* B.) ..I could try to find a really nice '82 Sting Frame, get it painted with the Schwinn Paint again, and then collect a Decal Set(which I had some of already, but those of you who've stickered a Sting in the last year or so know that original Decal Sets can cost nearly $700--which I find it surprising that a Sting Decal Set is probably the most expensive Decal Set out there, and you've got to put them together piece-by-piece)...and spend about another $1,000 or so correcting the error and keeping it an '82 Sting!!! Well, SO MUCH $$ and Time had been spent on the build already, and even though I was passionate about this build, I was almost exclusively into mid-late '70's bmx by now(not so much Schwinn anymore--besides my mid '80's Predators of course), so I just decided I was going to try to sell it, but for some reason I felt I had to still complete it first and sell it as a complete MINT/NOS bike, and that since the '82 Sting was the last year and is really rare(never seen another complete one besides Haney's NOS-in-the-box), and the '82 would not be as desirable to as many people(because when people think of "The Sting", they don't picture an '82, but instead an '80 or '81)...so I decided to build it as a more-recognizable '80 Sting! I determinded which parts I needed to change-out to make the bike an '80 Sting Build, and here's the list I came up with: I needed to change-out the: Fork: (from a 2nd Gen Sting Fork to 1st Gen Sting Fork--they had different Dropouts and Decals) Bars: (from the uber-rare '82 Sting V-Bars to the normal Sting Bars) Stem: (from a 2nd Gen "SCHWINN"-stamped Sting Stem to the smaller 1st Gen "SCHWINN"-stamped Sting Stem) Seat: (from a Yellow/Red "SCHWINN"-stamped ELINA Tahei Lightning-Bolt Seat to a Black Brooks B-18 Seat) Chain: (from a Black HKK Chain to a Sedis Chain) Pedals: (from Red MKS BM-10 Pedals to Black MKS B-1 Pedals) Pads: (I can't use Yellow on the build now--so I just went Padless! I tried Black Sting Pads as well, just to see how they'd look--as you can see in the pics; and I tried Red Sting Pads too, but it was just way too much Red!) Tires: (from Schwinn Maximizers to Schwinn Scrambler Comp Multi-Directional Tractor Tires! HOWEVER, the actual correct Tires for the '80 Sting are the Black NTKK Tires, but I could only find 1 NOS Black 1.75 NTKK Tire(which I still have and can't find a match to), so I decided the closest thing I could get to "correct" was to use the NOS Tires that are in the '79 Schwinn Sting "23lbs of Dynamite" Ad, which were these Scrambler Comp Tires! This is the ONLY part on the build that isn't 100% Correct Stock) Well, I found these parts rather quickly--acquired them all in less than 2 weeks, which was ridiculous compared to the 3+ years it took me to acquire the NOS Stock '82 Parts, and crazy because I'd never even seen a set of NOS Sting Bars in all of this time of searching for Sting stuff until I needed them! And, as you read above, I decided to just settle on the NOS Scrambler Tires instead of waiting to find the match to my NOS Black NTKK Tire, which is absolutely what I would have done normally when doing a build, but after everything that happened with the blunder, and now that it wasn't even the build I wanted to do, I was just exhausted and went with the Scrambler Comp Tires to get it finished...again! I think this is the only part I've ever 'settled' on using on one of my builds rather than waiting-out the actual part I need/want for the build(which is why you don't see more of my builds posted--I'm still waiting-out all of these parts on my other builds)! lol. Anyway, here are the pics of Build#2(the Stock Catalog Pic, followed by 2 Pics of the Build--both with & without Pads): I decided not to put on a Chainguard, even though I had a NOS one lined-up to buy; and, it looks like I forgot to put the Reflector on when taking these '80 Sting Pics--lol. But above, I've got the reflector on the first build, even though it isn't on the Stock Pic I provided! lol. I promise, the '82 Sting at the top(the first build) had a reflector present in the Standard '82 Schwinn Catalog Pic of it! lol. So now, I had a MINT/NOS Complete '80 Stock Sting, and as beautiful as it was, it wasn't what I wanted--I WANTED THAT ORIGINAL MINT/NOS '82 RED/YELLOW STING I'D WORKED SO HARD FOR OVER 3 YEARS TO BUILD!!! It just serves as a reminder to my 1st-Build-Blunder, so if anyone is interested in this MINT Sting Frame/Fork, or any of the NOS Parts on it, please let me know, because it would probably be better somewhere where people could appreciate it for what it is, instead of what it isn't! I think I've sold the Seat, Brake, and Pedals already--but that is about it, and still have everything else! ...And you thought your made some mistakes on your first build... Anyone like the 2nd Build better? Some people do, because it looks more like what people think of when they think of "The Sting"...but I just didn't have my heart into it like the 1st Build!
  9. Of course it would do better than the Nomura...but Aggy is saying comparatively bmx just isn't selling for as much as you'd think it would be going for these days!
  10. I really think there are a lot of serious people planning to bid a lot on this, and that it is going to go higher than we think! I'd say over $15,000 for sure! There are collectors lurking in this post right now, and others that I'm sure have been told of the frame who are not on this site that are just waiting for it to hit ebay, and who plan on their bids to be the winning bids! When you want your bid to be the winning bid, you bid more than you want to, just to make sure you outbid the next guy--and when you've got at least a dozen or more guys doing this same thing, you're going to see it go much higher than is expected up to this point!!! BMX stuff isn't going for what it should be these days though, so maybe I'm wrong, and maybe it will go lower? I really think it will end up around $20,000+...but there have been a few treasures sell lately for less than what I thought they'd bring, so what do I know? The GJS 24" went on ebay for like $4K, and it is the only one that exists I think! Hutch Cranks used to sell for that much, and SST Hubs have hit that too, but nowadays stuff just isn't bringing what you'd think it would bring! You'd think based on this, the GJS would have gone for twice as much, but not the case! Now I'm talking myself out of thinking it will go so high! lol. OK, if I had to guess before writing this, I'd have said $27,000...but now I'm going to go with a solid $13,750!!! lol.
  11. I know Owl, it is a habit I developed, and I can't train my fingers to hit that darn period instead of the exclamation point!!! You'd think I'd be more apt to use the period since I only need one finger for it, but somehow I got into this exclamation habit and can't shake it! The funny thing is I've got a really calm, monotone demeanor in person, so my typing doesn't match my tone whatsoever!!! When I type I sound like Richard friggin' Simmons, and it is embarrassing!!! lol. This damn exclamation point is going to be the demise of me!!! If anyone knows of any help groups or programs for this problem, please let me know!!! Oh, and here are a couple pics of my Steel STR-1 dropouts!!! (As you can see, he didn't have the dropouts touched-up before powdering, and the Tan isn't the correct shade, but it doesn't matter because this one's going Brown Brown very soon! I don't know of anyone who's done an STR-1 in Brown Brown since they were originally painted back in the day, so I'm pretty stoked to get this build finished...I have just a little further to go though)!!!
  12. It seems as though Champion might not have made a 13/16" Seatpost for the Mini! Can anyone prove this wrong before I have to forego building the Mini Champion that I wanted to build and build the other instead?!
  13. Also Greg, the dropouts on the STR-1(Mild Steel) are flush with the outside of the tubing that they're welded to; whereas the Cr-Mo dropouts are welded more toward the center of the tubes! I'd say when you take the dropouts into account; the size of the loop; and the serial#--you've got a pretty strong case for your Frame being an extremely early(maybe the earliest known) Cr-Mo STR-1! I think the Cr-Mo serial#'s began with #1001)! I'd be excited about that alone--more excited than even if it were Steel! I realize the weight doesn't match-up, and the welds are gloppy like the Steel Welds, so I guess you have to take that into account too! This is definitely a difficult one--you've got 3 defining factors for Cr-Mo vs. 2 defining factors for Steel...but my guess is Cr-Mo! Also, I was one of the guys who was talking to the owner about this Frame! I wasn't all over him trying to buy it, and he always messaged me about it--I only responded to his messages, and wasn't trying to buy it but was instead trying to help him figure out exactly what he had there--which is the reason I thought he was messaging me! I did say that if he ever sold it to let me know because I might be interested though! I was only interested because I thought it was a Cr-Mo one, because a build I'm doing requires an early Cr-Mo version, so I can't use my Steel STR-1 for the build, and I'm hoping to find a Cr-Mo one with a serial# between #1000 and #1150 if possible...not because I thought this Frame was a Mild Steel one! I don't know if he was talking to anyone else about it--I'm just saying I wasn't one of the collectors you referred to as being all over him to buy it; and the only reason I was interested in it was because I thought(and still think) that it is an early Cr-Mo version that falls within the serial# range I'm trying to find! Well, I hope you figure it out someday because I'd love to hear the outcome! I'd think there would be a way to tell which kind of metal it is other than weighing it! Are there any metal experts out there that can give some advice on how to test the metal? That way you could put this to rest and finally know for sure!!!
  14. My Mild Steel STR-1, with braces ahead and behind the bb, and that was powdered before I bought it weighs 5.4lbs on the bathroom scale! Any other weights of Cr-Mo ones?
  15. And I mean the above in the manliest way possible(well, as manly as someone with a tampon can be)! lol. It's water under the bridge pal!
