  1. I have a picture that may prove otherwise, it's of Sewell going full tilt down a straight in BMXAction shot with a bunch of other riders, it looks like normal K-Mart Murray frame, and they way it is twisting under the pedaling torque, it has to be a cheapie...
  2. QUOTE(DAN @ May 18 2008, 10:36 PM) Maybe you're just a really nice guy but could you be a little more aggressive with the come backs? If you can't turn it up a little bit I'm going to respond to my post for you. I mean it. QUOTE(DAN @ May 18 2008, 11:25 AM) I would think that after all the auctions end and the seller receives no payment two or three times he might want to stop dealing with the headache and come up with a reasonable price to sell back the lot. I'm pretty sure there are enough of us around that have more than one Ebay account in the household that we can stand a little heat from Ebay. possibly the creepies post's comming from what everone calls a "respected" member of this community...WOW!! It doesnt matter who you are or what you did,you dont fuck with someones livelihood. Especially if he did nothing wrong...and by the sound of it,Harry doesn't seem as concened as most of you guys. I am amazed but most of all digusted that any of these ideas have even been floated. What exactly is the issue we are dealing with here? These items are no longer Harry Leary's property, therefore all of this is between the e-bay seller and whover wins the auctions. Dan, you seem to have taken this on as some personal crusade to save Harry Leary, yet the man hasn't asked for any help. You also unzipped the fly on your ethics by the asinine suggestions that people bid on the stuff and not pay. What if these were your auctions? Would you want people to bid then welch at the end? Some of you should use a little more discretion when slapping the label of "respected" member of the community, especially when they suggest we do something ILLEGAL and UNETHICAL both in and out of e-bay. S.Brothers, I would seriously consider the negative impact of this type of activity on the reputation of this web-site. I for one do not want this site associated with an individual or group of individuals who resort to such gutter tactics. If you stand back and let this kind of stuff "fly" you might be seen as harboring e-bay dead beats and shill bidders. Shannon, your story about the JMC and what you did is commendable, but I know you didn't post it to get accolades, it was still a cool move on your part.
  3. I'm not the complete authority and God on all of BMX etc. I never said I was, but by the sound of your posts, it sure seems YOU think you are. Have you ever tried shitting in a hat? It can get pretty messy. It's alright with me though Kerry, no hard feelings. You're right, though, it's just an opinion, but step back and look at this from a different angle, there are way more important things to be concerned about than this, you think this os bmx re-pop business is going to be clawing at your soul on your deathbed? Mark, I pretty much am "done" although I still enjoy visiting the sites but it's just not that important to me anymore and it pains me that there all of this bickering over MATERIAL THINGS. Maybe I'm just jaded. I think I'll just go back to lurking and posting when there's a Diamond Back related question that no one answers. By the way here's another opinion: Hutch's suck, always have, always will!
  4. This is one of the reasons why I am not really involved with this hobby anymore, too many people telling others what is right and what is wrong. He bought the rights he gets to do whatever he wants with it. Those of you who are opposed to this should have maybe tried to get a hold of said rights and locked them away in a vault so no one can "re-pop" anything. Instead of crying about it, why don't you guys seek out the remaining names/trademarks, buy them and sit around patting each other on the back because you helped "save" the integrity of this hobby. Where are all of the protest letters to Profile when they announced that they were brining back the Box crank for a limited time? Sure they were the original purveyors, but a "re-pop" is a re-pop and those spanking new Profile cranks may help tank the value of some of the originals still floating out there. What it Rich Hutchins held on to the name and decided to cash in on the nostalgia and had Profile make him a run of Aerospeeds? Would there be an uproar? Fuji "Bought" the rights to SE and they're cashing in on the "Legacy", History", and "Legend" I said it before and I said it again, I think this is more about maintaining overinflated prices and ego's, you guys will be the first to deny it, but all of this talk about integrity, honor, it all comes across as trying to hide the real worry, LOSING THE MONEY YOU INVESTED IN AN OVERPRICED PART/BICYCLE, there are some who also like being those "ooh he's one of four people in the world with that part/bike" club. Enjoy the hobby (as complicated, emotional and political as it has become) have fun with what you have and don't consider it an investment, they are just pieces of metal, rubber, and plastic, sure they have sentimental value but in reality that's all they are. Let John go ahead with his venture, that is part of what makes this country great, the opportunity to make a business, the market will tell if he is successful or not. Those who choose to not buy from him, more power to you, those who do, same thing, I hope you can build you dream bike. As far as trying to pass these off third party as originals, CAVEAT EMPTOR, and to those of you who do pass re-pops off as originals, remember that what comes around goes around. Quit wasting time and energy every time somebody wants to re-pop something. You guys sound like children.
  5. Steve, I wish I could say that we did know each other bitd, but unfortunately for me, I was just one of those young "faces in the crowd" I'll be 37 this year so I was considerably younger during the heyday of the BMXAction Trick Team. I was lucky to meet Mike a couple of years ago via a mutual interest in dirt bikes that we both have. He had nothing but positive things to say about you and "The Bicycle Source". As Steve mentioned earlier, Mike is doing well (save for the broken leg). You guys will never meet a nicer guy. Anyways guys, if you can post some more pictures of him on this thread that would be awesome.
  6. I saw Mike Buff a couple of days ago, and he is laid up with a broken leg. I was lucky to see a "scrap book" with a lot of cool pictures, articles and stuff spanning Buff's early racing days, the BMXAction era, and his Mountain Bike riding. Mike is a really cool down to earth guy, the cool thing is that he is very humble about his "fame". He is totally into his wife and kids and I can tell that they come first for him, for that I deeply respect him, he also seems to be a very private person so I hope he doesn't mind that I am posting this. Don't get me wrong, he won't turn away from talking about the "old days" but what's cool is that although he acknowledges the "old days" he doesn't live in them, doesn't live in the past. He has two great kids, a beautiful wife, and a little dog that claimed my lap as her territory. Steve, he spoke about you and "The Bicycle Source" too, said you guys had been in contact. My dad used to deliver Hostess Cakes and was in the same Depot in Glendora as his other brother who was a Wonder Bread driver or supervisor, I think his name is Ed? Anyway it was nice to see him again. I always thought his bikes were way more cool than R.L.'s Murray and Redline...I like the blue "Taco Bell Special" but I am partial to the white "P.K." that was almost exactly like the blue "Taco Bell Special" with white Z-rims but trimmed in Red. The one with the black Z-rims kicks ass too.
  7. Is that "Grady" from "Sanford & Son" on the mural behind you?
  8. The sad thing is Jason is serious about wanting two sets!
  9. I do rememer my buddy doing the EASY OFF and the last of the white residue took some elbow grease but that's all we knew in our "East L.A./Commmerce/Montebello" barrio/neighborhood. Good luck with whatever you use, just don't "buff" too much of the detail off.
  10. If the air compressor doesn't work, use a small skinny screw driver, BUT don't use hairspray, use 409 or something, the hairspray will make them stick for good, as will WD-40, the amonia in Windex might do that too, 409 is just a soap which will dry with time, and will allow you to remove them in the future if you want. The best would be plain water though.
  11. If I can recall Sandy's description, the forks were centerline axle Tange's, Takagi one piece cranks, some kind of black "rat trap" pedals, Messinger seat, Femco steel rims, other than that, I dont really remember, but it's a start huh?
