  1. r.cal - take a good long look at the first image in your photo gallery. i might not have thought much of it if the seat hadn't been pink. haha too bad there's not a smilie where he's pulling his mind out the gutter. can't post pics until i figure what's wrong with my camera. resembling most like archinto's tho. same style grips etc., but i'm lacking that standing platform gizmo at the rear of toptube. predicting it's a late 80's / early 90's due to the style of font used on the decals? everything is either red, black or white - or a combo of those colors - save for the f/f which is chrome. currently have two front wheels on. one black (redstone?) and a white (maglite?) - with white tires. the black looks best. just need to find a rear. only questions really were to see what color combo wheels/tires came with it and to possibly date it. no biggie - it was free.
  2. anyone have any personal pics, magazine ad scans, etc. for - what i'm guessing - a late 80's Freeform EX? it has a bunch of YO! hoopla on it. not the thin Predator font, but rather more geometric. pretty sure everything's original, but the rims and tires were sold before i got it. i think the guy said "black rims and white tires" before the parting out. found a few older Freeforms at "Somewhere else", but no luck on this one. just curious to what schemes they came in, etc. found some written info too, but looking for pics if anyone can help. thanks - and hello again!
  3. i found this method by mistake - i was trying some CLR on a chain to help remove some light rusting. (CLR - Calcium, Lime, Rust remover) was letting it soak in a bucket... came back a few later and the water was blue. and my chain was no longer.... blue. not sure how well it'd work on larger, fancier anodized parts though. it didn't do squat for the rust either.
  4. i'm with Dys on the dremel usage. i upgraded to that tool after both hands developed blisters. but i only had break marks to remove. here's one for you - i have a set of old yellow mags off a schwinn. they look like they've sat outside in all kinds of weather & sun for years. pic below is after a normal cleaning. and they still look poor. it's like the "issue" has penetrated the nylon. you guys have spoke on removing external dirt & grime, etc. but what about stuff that's "soaked" into the mag itself. pretend i have no connections (or money) for blasting techniques. what can i use from around the house to clean these up? did the color just fade out of them? like how sun bleaches plastic?
  5. hey jon (OSPK) - not to drag it on... but are they local to you? that'd be my one fear. shipping parts outs and never getting them back. you got any feedback on that? just curious. thanks SO much again for the suggestions! (just noticed that i'm getting shorter with my posts. rad huh?) LOL
  6. thanks guys! i'm gonna seriously look in to the cost of rechroming locally. ESPECIALLY after seeing a pic of C.King's green quad with yellow accents! (in the gallery) i've been slowly working myself out of the realm of having to "copy" old ads / restore to "original" standing. so i was thinking - metallic green frame / fade to black as it would've been. yellow square / white lettering RL-20 decals. maybe not as much of the yellow trim as he has, but enough to bring out the yellow in the decals. i also need to get the bumpers on my falcon done. i'm wondering if i could use the same place for both bike and car? thanks again for all suggestions! much appreciated!
  7. thanks plux. that's the kind of stuff i need to know about. i'll try it. i actually spent this evening installing the cups and cleaning it up some more. tried the dremel with some polishing stuff. didn't seem to help the dullness, though i only gave it one passing. i guess this'll be a bike for daily riding since it won't be of show quality. then maybe one day i'll have the funds to get it (and a few others) professionally blasted and repainted / rechromed.
  8. Bike #2 - (no pic) it's a scrambler left out behind my neighbor's shed for the past 20 years. i stripped and sanded it by hand as best i could. then i was too eager to get it repainted, so i left out the priming part and rattle canned it. looked good at the time, but has since been sitting in my shed. the other day i noticed brown (rust) spots poking through the paint. almost as if someone had taken a tooth brush dipped in brown paint and splattered the frame in areas. again - too poor to have this bike professionally dealt with right now. i'm willing to restrip it and start over though. in doing so, how can i prevent moisture in the air from activating that rust again? i'm thinking - 1.) strip and sand 2.) a clear coat of something 3.) primer this time around 4.) then the paint would that work? again, suggestions would be rad. thanks.
  9. Bike #1 - same bike, different area. the fork was in pretty bad shape too. sometimes my solution is a soft green scour pad and WD-40. this has never damaged the finish before. but this time around it did. maybe i was a little too rough / a little too eager? anyway, you can see in the pic where the finish lacks shine. i've bought some polishing pads, etc. for the dremel. i know it's hard to tell via the pic the exact condition of the chrome... is it at all possible to bring this back to / or close to show quality shine? i've seen some of your poilishing attempts, and WOW! but i never see how bad your part was in the first place. what products do you use (please be brand specific)? and how many passes am i looking at before i start to see a difference? i think i give up after one or two, when i see little to no change. i have to go this route right now, b/c i don't think i can afford rechroming just yet. so any help would be appreciated. thanks.
  10. Bike #1 - as seen in the pic below, i have chrome flaking off b/c of rust. now let's all pretend that i'm too poor to have this bike rechromed right now. going on that, what's my best remedy for this? a quick fix so that it won't continue to get worse? should i - sand it down with a dremel and spray on some clear fixative? any other suggestions? and roughly, how much does it cost to have a bike rechromed?
  11. LOL yeah, i remember seeing that pic recently. have no clue who they are though. and i always find myself wondering... for some of these shots, such as that one..... do people set the bike up as if in trick mode and quickly hop on to get the shot taken? (did that make sense?) there have been some magazine ads that i've seen, rider in the middle of a trick, but the bikes at such an angle that.... say the road's helping to hold it in place or something. and then the rider hops on and positions themself as if pulling the trick off. that it's more of a momentary balancing act. to prove my theory/question here, i'm gonna try a few shots sometimes soon. first i've got to pick a few tricks (as the one above). let's pretend that the above shot was just one of many positions in the trick - tailwhip. how do you ever know if the shot was literally taken mid trick or if they simply set it up to appear as such? (is that explaining the question better?) any thoughts on this? ps - please, everyone know that my pic post was NOT me on the bike. it was krys dauchy. i just played with the face... the face is mine. it was a joke. i don't want you all thinking i can do such things on a bike.
  12. uh yeah........ that's me before i died my hair? i actually had one guy (Pat) think it was literally me. waaaaiiiit. ah! he was referring to the shot above, which is posted on my bike site (which i guess he hit up before mailing me). not the altered shot. i kept wondering how he couldn't help but notice the oversized head, not to mention my confession about changing the original pic. LOL!!! so i tell him that it's my face but not my body or bike? well damn if that isn't an excellent representation of the use of photoshop! (the above shot) i guess now i've got him thinking that i have krys's face? note to self: never again post or email others while on little to no sleep. shortly before i crashed late this afternoon, i had asked "Dys" to remove the entire thread. i can't believe i posted such a retarded looking thing! but thanks for sharing in the laughs.
  13. sorry. i couldn't help myself. all this talk of "submit pics of yourself doing a trick".... i got to thinking a few things. a.) i kinda wanted a pic of her to be the little icon beside my name b.) i wanted a pic of her to be my "signature" c.) i was gonna try to merge a full me into the shot as if i'd been standing next to her d.) didn't have a full on shot.... so e.) this was the best i could come up with. my head's supposed to be larger, in case you were wondering. kinda like at a carnival... when they wear those oversized masks? or better yet, a bobble-head doll. it's something like 5:30 in the morning and fun loving insomnia's taken hold again. so i got a little bored. hope i'm not infringing on any rights here. it's all in good humor, right? that pic's about six months old. pre-flop. my bangs are about down to my nose now. you know how hard it was to find a stylist that was old enough to remember those cuts? not to mention, how embarassing to ask for it. LOL first i get asked how old i am. then once they're told, i get no comment... (crickets chirping) just the look of "shouldn't you be asking for a more mature style? maybe a nice business dress suit and corporate job?" just kidding. it's not that bad. my hair's more "artsy" than anything, and i tip well. so there's never a disapproving look thrown my way. LOL hey, were there any other female riders (freestyle) from BITD? i don't remember there being many... or any.
  14. "Pay no attention to the name behind the curtain."
  15. LOL you guys are the sweetest! taking care of that damsel in distress. how cute. too bad ya'll hadn't followed rob's post sooner. i tried his little trick. i don't know why i hadn't thought to do so sooner. guess i figured one could never bend a frame by hand. but one shot on both sides and the wheel slid on! i do think dave and will (for short) have a point. yes, the one dropout is bent. and i just measured the hub... quite a funny sight. the old tape measure stretched through the spokes, one eye closed trying to "guess" at what it might be. i'm pretty sure it reads 1 1/4" from nut to nut. i just took this pic. and measured areas between the dropouts, etc. does it not look like the entire triangle is kinda shifted to the right? (our right, as per looking at the pic) well anyway... the only issue(s) i have now are to bend that bottom lip of the dropout back in. and to place an extra smaller nut on the freewheel side. the locking portion of the freewheel jets out just a hair and is rubbing on the frame. and i tried a chain... and it rubs on the frame too, just by the freewheel. keep in mind that this was once a hutch jet. and i'll probably never ride it (much). i was mostly bummed that parts weren't fitting as smoothly as per my other bikes. mux, i like your pink/white idea. i recently saw a pic of this bike with a white headset and it looked hot! but for some reason i was set on black/chrome trim. thanks for all the help! now if only i could learn how to sell on ebay.
