Jeff, that's the "prototype/unique" one I was referring too......That's actually the only one I've ever come across like that also, and its really cool too!.....that looks like the same style/one Joe posted awhile ago.

Gil, I've only come across one type. (Except for factory prototype unique 1st one)...They were available on the late '80 frame, and the '81-'83 model. (bottom pic is what I believe to be a late '80 frame, 1st time for chain tensioners on production bikes) Claude

Does anyone know what era the stem called a "slimline" was??? I was just searching ebay under "chrome seatpost" and a bunch of older Schwinn posts came up, but Im guessing because they say for Schwinn Krate bikes/Sting Rays, etc. that would mean 13/16?? They are all the kind that shrink down to 5/8 into the seatguts I noticed...I definitely need 7/8th...... I've started collecting parts for my next bike. It will be a 76-77 model, and I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on era correct parts I'm interested in. I'll be the first to admit this era is uncharted territory for me, and I'm stumped on a few parts so any help would be appreciated! I would like to keep everything 76-78 if possible... Grips- I like the Oakley 1's, were they available in this era? If not, what was the preferred grips of the day? Handlebars- Who besides Cook Bros made nickel plated STRAIGHT crossbar handlebars? (no v-bars) Stem- I really like the chrome/silver Cebe stems, but am unsure of their era. Seatpost- Did anyone make a straight nickel plated post at this time? (Redline?) If not, who made a chrome one? Chain- What was the norm in chains and were they black or nickel? Pretty sure I have everything else covered. Thanks in advance for any help! Claude

That is the later plate(with eagle @ bottom, and bends @ bars), it was available Im sure '81-'83, and possibly earlier....I will see what I can find... Claude

Thanks everyone......One thing I wanted to mention, the Aerospeeds are 185's. Is that size pretty common to pop up? I remember seeing a bunch of 180's, and a few 175's over the years, but I dont remember seeing 185's though, just wondering, any info is appreciated. Claude

Thanks guys. I just learned two important things on my first ride: 1) I am soooo out of shape, DAMN IT! 2) I've never owned Hutch pedals, if I slip, my shins are toast!

My new whip. I Need to shed a bunch of pounds,(50), so hopefully this will do the trick. My pressure is high as is my sugar too I'm sure. Gathered all the parts over the last year. My buddy owns the LBS, so he put it together wheels and all for me. (I like supporting a local business) It has Hutch everything except the BB cups, still searching. I have the stem pad but it doesn't fit, so I could use a better one of those as well as some OG fork decals, and Hutch/Haro plate. (the broken one was a lost cause) Big thanks to Steven Bven for 3/4 of the bike, and Norm Kiproff for the grips, that was too cool of him. I'm going for a spin, looking forward to cruising with Jr again.....
