Thanks J..M..C Noted.... and I'm not real picky about the JMCs..... I just don't want to be taken advantage of because of my lack of knowledge on these old parts. -

that's odd..... a well established member on this site at VBMX confirmed they were GJS but said "JMC bars are worth way more than GJS bars" when I said I wanted to trade these for JMC bars -
bump ??

Jim Melton replied today saying what you guys said and what I was thinking... "Hi Justin, I am sorry to say they are not JMC bars. All JMC bars had either the teardrop cross bar or the oval shaped cross bar......." I opened a PayPal dispute... never had to do this before... not sure what will happen..... So what are these? ..... next I'm gonna hear these are huffy, right. ;) -
Is this a real "Tuf-Neck" stem (no stamp)

Thanks J..M..C and Frosty! Also, "dwk" on the museum posted this ad that shows that other decal type: -

There is no ink left on the sticker. The shape is not round though. It is square/flat at the bottom and rounded at the top.... does that tell you anything? -

GREAT! The whole reason I bought the bike was for the JMC bars! ARRRRGGGGG $#^& !!!!! -
I sent these to Jim Melton to get his opinion, but have not heard back from him yet. I'm worried because the crossbar seems to be more of a pinch instead of a oval "aero" tube that I was expecting. It's either flat or even concave along the crossbar.

The serial number is: W52444 .... What year does that make this? Here's a couple of pics... (frame is dirty, not rusty!!!, just pulled from the box for a few snaps) http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w194/Ch...ck-dropouts.jpg http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w194/Ch...usset-dirty.jpg

It just so happens that it arrived this morning. There is a few problems with some components not seeming to be what was advertised though. I might have to send the whole darn thing back, who knows.... (said to have Tuf neck, but there is no stamp on stem, "JMC Bars" don't quite look like real JMC to me... etc..) I haven't actually pulled the frame from the box yet, but I'll let you know when I do. .... and if I end up keeping it, I'll probably sell the frame.... any interest?

Not that my adolescent mind is/was anything to associate with truth/facts/reality... but I always was a chrome guy... and always wanted a JMC ... and I seem to remember that early chrome shadows had "Black Shadow" on them, but quickly changed to just "Shadow" I know because I really wanted one... I now have a november built '82 "Shadow" ... so maybe something before that month could have been "Black..."
