  1. Let me know how this works out for you I was debating on getting one myself.
  2. Use the mothers man it makes things shine. I started on my elf dx3 frame and it's starting to look real real nice. I'm not finished with it yet but I ran it down to the bikeshop to check out some parts and the shop owner was like man you did a good job on that one. I figured if mothers is good enough for my car it's good enough for my bike.
  3. Those rings were to hold a pump...very common on road bikes, not so common for BMX... Thanks for the info. I asked my stepdad the other day and he told me the same thing. Kind of before my time since this bike outdates me =)
  4. I was wondering how the sign was supposed to be. There are little rings on the tube for the seat any idea what they are?
  5. A guy at work got this bike along with a bunch of old bikes he recently picked up. I know it's a sears bike I believe it's from 1979. I know these bikes where like the huffy of bmx. I bought it off of him anyhow just because I had never seen anything like it. I was hoping someone here that is older then I could lend some info on it.
  6. That's pretty cool. Looks like a fun way to spend some quality time with the kids. That's the only reason I even got started in building bikes. I hadn't been on a bike in about 10 years before the kids got into them. Now I spend quite a bit of time fooling with bikes. It's getting cold here in Ohio so I'm going to have to finish up some bikes over this winter so I can take the kids to the track next summer.
  7. You forgot to change the logo on your jeep and what jeep would be complete without blue tires.
  8. Lol I'll post as I go I have so many bikes sitting around it's insane. I just picked up a k2 the other day. I was gonna use it for parts but I think my gf's son is gonna take it for his birthday gift unless I run across another bike he likes better. Hopefully I can find someone getting rid of a mongoose for a decent price around here and get the k2 back so I can raid it for parts. I've never fooled around with a threadless headset so I wanted to take it all apart and see exactly how it's all put together. I always had threaded forks on every bike I ever had. For some odd reason my gf's son thinks that mongoose is the fastest bike ever. If I can find a newer one that one of the other neighborhood kids don't have then I'll be good to go on getting my parts bike back.
  9. I would rechrome it as far as the finish go I don't think you will be as satisfied in the end unless you rebuild it exaclty the way it was. Especially since you are working on finding the parts you had on it to begin with. As far as the seatpost goes if it's rusted in I would try using pb blaster. It seemed to work well for me on the lowrider bike I restored. I pb blasted it for awhile then clamped the post with a vice grip and beat it out with a hammer. If that doesn't work maybe you can cut it off and then grind through the seat post inside of the seat tube and take it out in pieces.
  10. ya it was a us made frame. That guy lived like 2 towns away from me so I just drove and picked it up we got into a discussion about old school bmx and bikes he had when he was young. He said he wanted to ride it on the bmx track but couldn't afford to take the risk of busting himself up. I haven't cleaned the chrome yet so I'm sure it will shine up nice. I just wiped off the excess sticker remover as I went on peeling stickers. I have the other crank to put on it still and I stole the brakes off of a giant mountain bike I bought for 15 bucks. So for less then 100 bucks I have a decent looking bike to ride that is almost identical to the one I had when I was a kid so I'm happy.
  11. I'd probably resticker it and clean it up a little bit. I wouldn't repaint it possibly get some touch up paint to match the color. Other then that I'd leave it alone. Nice score.
  12. I bought it like this off ebay painted the seatpost, changed bars, changed to diacompe brakes restickered and added some grips I still got some work to do on it like change seats. I have a different gt crank I'm debating on tossing on it has shorter crank arms. Let me know what you guys think. I changed to a different sticker type because I liked them better.
