  1. That's a sweet frame you have there. It's identical to one i have here. With the plate welded behind the seat stay and a serial number which is just numbers, with no R and a couple of further letters b4 the digits. As a large number of Proline frames have. So i think yours is the same which makes it an '82 - '83 frame. As for the forks you'll be after the standard , tapered Proline forks. They're getting harder to come by now as the drops seem to be made of glass and shatter. If you do source a set you'll probably want to run washers either side of each drop-out if it's to be a rider. The forks will need to be for a 5" head-tube also as that's what your frame has... I'll fire some pics of mine up laters so you can get an idea... G.
  2. Very nice Mr Scary m8. Let's see her built up sometime this year G.
  3. Here's a closer pic of the rear end and finish on my complete H.L Turbo. You can see the dark blue, oily finish to her. It's very close to the original finish, and under certain light you can get the glisten of the chrome shining through. It does look sweet. G.
  4. It's an '83 Mongoose Californian if i'm not totally mistaken. G.
  5. Thanx m8. I'm one step closer today, to finally having her completed. After 3 years i finally managed to source a nos D.I.D 3/32, plated chain for her. As original. The last part of the puzzle is a pair of mint Diamond Back Turbo crank end caps... I'll get her there eventually. So i'm almost ready to have her photo'd and put onto the museums etc. As for the PL-20. She's finished now. I'll get a thread up about her soon too. All these bikes do get ridden. Not just carpet queens Grem'.
  6. So it does sound like yours are Tioga Max-flo then. They're nice cranks. They came with rub on decals on the arms which rub off in no time once being ridden. G.
  7. Thanx lads. At least you like the bikes... G.
  8. Yours crank sounds exactly like mine. I think Tioga and Sr made an identical version. There's an unspoken rule in my house... The wife chooses how it's decorated and i get to build and spend time with my little projects. And life is good... G.
  9. Hi all. I've spent the last three years sourcing and building this little beauty to this spec... During the time i also picked up another Turbo frame and forks set and set about getting the bits together for that build. The difference being i wanted a Leary Turbo i could happily ride when and wherever. The finish was totally destroyed on it so i decided to completely remove it and take it back to chrome, which of course was in amazing condition after being protected by the finish over the years. At this point i decided rather than build 2 Turbo's up that were gonna be identical, i may as well do something a little different. So i had a set of decals made up in black on clear, which are amazing. Took my time fitting them, and now she looks like this... All parts are original Leary Turbo apart from the crank. Using it as a daily rider i didn't want to fit a Turbo crank set and run the risk of putting hairline cracks etc into the name plates. So i went with a Tioga Max-flo hollow one piece crank. More pics... Any thoughts? G.
  10. Here's the latest pic of one of my babies. It's taken me about 2 yrs to get her to this stage. The only things i need now are a mint set of Turbo crank end caps. I'm basically ready to make a start on my other Turbo now too. I'm 95% there parts wise... It'll give me something to get me through the winter lol. G.
  11. I do love a nice Diamond back or two. I've just built this Silver streak up as a proper ride about. Built to this spec, although i do have all the original spec parts for it now. For when i'm ready to turn it into a museum piece. My Turbo also gets taken out a lot, weather permitting. A bit sketchy at times tho. Wouldn't want to damage any part of her. But it's built to be riden. Another reason that Streak was built as my normal rider.
  12. Yeah, the cranks are top notch. One of the things that really stand out about the turbo. As nice as the Leary turbo is, i don't think i'd have been such a nut over the bike bitd if it didn't have the crankset. But that's history. Getting on with my build. Finally picked up a turbo seat post, to replace the laid back post. I've got a set of XcII's with polished bodies on her as well now. The suede Kashi should be here soon. Just the chrome Araya for the rear that's my sticking point at the mo. G.
  13. A bit of a quad man are you Str-1? Nice looking turbo frame and fork set you have there. As you say there's nothing like a turbo. Most builds look the part, but a Harry leary just has that little extra. Are you going to get some pics up of your resto on her when you start? Will get some proper gallery type pics up of mine soon. Want to wait til i get my mitts on a nos chrome 1.75 Araya 7x hoop for the rear before that tho. :32:
  14. Hi all. I'm glad you like her. No she's not survivor. She's had a new recoat and set of immaculate decals added. Looks well sweet tho and as new. She gleams. I recoated the turbo cranks too a few weeks ago. But basically all the rest is nos or survivor parts, rechromed or polished at the mo. Like i said i still need one or two parts to finish her off. But it's getting there. Gav. :32:
