  1. Update: I just deciphered the number on the left drop-out (I think ). I came up with 3088694.
  2. "cbmx"? I checked what was on ebay for "bmx frame fork" right now, and didn't see anything that looked close. That sticker on mine is definitely not a Concorde logo, apparently.
  3. BTW, this bike does have the same Tange forks as the Blue Panda in that picture Drew posted. Not that TX-500's (? or are those 1200's? I always forget) are at all uncommon for that era. I used to have a set of the curved Tange's on my old Mongoose.
  4. Thruster! Now there's a name I haven't heard in a long while. Back when Eddie rode for Torker, and Stu rode for Redline (after Webco).

Once, a long while back (I've had this bike about 5 years now), someone made a guess that it might be something called a Concord(e) Demon or Super Demon; but I've never been able to find any pics to support or refute that. Anybody ever seen one? Apparently Concord(e) is/was a European bike maker. The Euro guys made some interesting bikes, for sure. I remember in the late '70's, going into one of the "froo froo" shops in town and seeing a Puch BMX bike. As I recall, it was gold, and like 25-30% more expensive than the "dmoestic" bikes at the time.
  6. I guess it's possible. The welds are all pretty nice, though, so if it is a home made deal, whoever did it was pretty good. The lone sticker on it, BTW, I didn't mention, because it looks like it wss added later - not like the type of sticker you'd normally see on a bike - more like somebody's "name tag"; but heres a pic of it, just in case it is legit: http://www.bloodspoint.com/bike3/sticker.jpg
  7. I did discover, too, that there's another, much smaller number on the left dropout that I think is hand-stamped (the numbers aren't very well aligned, and inconsistent depth), maybe 7 or 8 digits. Starts with a "3", I think.

  9. Cool! I used to live in OP long-sleeved T-shirts. That was as close as I had to a "team" uniform... And yeah, whoever asked, Ron Jon's is still around. I'm wearing a Ron Jon's pocket T right now, as a matter of fact. they used to claim to be the world's largest, but at some point, that changed to "One of a Kind", which is what this shirt says. I still go by any time I'm in Cocoa Beach, just to get more shirts. They're online, these days, too.
  10. You know, as I looked at the Mongoose frame again today, it actually looks pretty good. I just need to get the rest of the paint off it. Has anybody used naval jelly? It seems to me I used to use that for stripping frames way back.
  11. Yes, the welds look as nice as what's on my Mongoose, for sure. It does seem a little weak in the back end, what with the chain stays not having any reinforcements. As i said, it's light, and the geometry reminds me of the Mongoose, too. I would've said maybe Panda, except for the fact that it's not a loop. Hmmph. If it turns out to be something nice, I'll have to decide whether to build the Mogoose or keep this one whole.
  12. That's a sweet find on the Supergoose! Yeah, that picture was taken yesterday. That's the bike as it sits today. Those are a pair of Haro bars I had sitting around. The CW's weren't just rusty on the outside; they were rusted through where the bars meet up with the stem. The bike had obviously sat outside for a while when I found it. No brake lever or cable; bars rusted; freewheel... not so much free; chain rusted solid. Spokes were loose, rear rim is a little bent. I got the wheels strightened up a little by tightening the spokes. Had to replace a few that broke, or were frozen. It still needs a new headset and new bottom bracket bearings; but I'll wait on those till I move the parts over to the 'goose. I have a new blue Elina-style seat coming, a new blue Suntour neck waiting to be put on. Still need a blue 44T chainwheel, some better cranks (I have some modern 1-piece CroMo ones I can use), some blue aluminum bars, maybe v-bars. I'd like some really minty blue alloy wheels or maybe some blue TuffII's. I had some yellow TuffII's on an old Redline MX-II that I had back in the day that were great wheels. My Mongoose was my first and favorite "good" bike, which is why I want to rebuild it. I traded it for an electric guitar, which seemed like a great deal at the time... I have no idea what this frame is, but it seems like a decent one, same basic geometry as the Mongoose, very light. I've never seen another one, though.
  13. Here are some pics of the mystery bike I found in the garbage. The bars, brake lever, and pedals I've added. It had no brake lever when I got it, and the CW bars on it were so rusted, they weren't even sound. I have lots of other shots, and can take more, but here are some of what I thought were important details. To me, it looks very Mongoose-like, but the drop-outs are wrong, and the gusset's got those cut-outs. It also kind of looks like a Panda to me in the front, but the back end is all wrong.   14. Thanks, sk8bones! Man, those decals look great! That'll really help. I'll try the stripper, and see how I do. Most of the parts I've got are salvaged from a bike that somebody threw away (!). I never have been able to identify the frame, but it had a set of Araya rims with Sunshine hubs, a blue Tufneck seat post clamp, blue and silver fluted seat post, nice Tange forks, faded but functioning Dia Compe side pull break, and pretty much the whole bike. Not much rust on the Mongoose frame, but plenty on the mystery frame, which looks kind of Mongoose like, but not quite. I got the mystery bike lubed up and good enought to ride, but my plan is to transplant as many parts are possible to the Mongoose frame once I get it stripped, and make a whole Mongoose. Lots of little parts I need yet.
