#552826 BOTY - Dedicated Discussion Thread

Posted by Mikku on 31 December 2017 - 08:52 AM

Yeah, I thought it was excellent! There were a good half a dozen or so bikes that I absolutely drooled over and would love to have a better, closer and longer look at, let alone ride or even own! Congrats to all the winners and thanks to those who voted for my Crupi - I had no expectation of winning and was just happy to be part of it. Next year I plan to enter something older!!

Right then, I've just sat down in front of the computer, cracked open a beer, and am going to look through all the categories and vote!! See you on the other side!!!

2011 Crupi Pro XL

After a 30-year break, 2017 saw me return to the race track and this is the bike that took me there. Based around a 2011 Pro XL frame (made in San Diego), it was built up with a mixture of largely Crupi, Promax and Sinz parts, and a colourway inspired by the late 80s, 24-carat gold Hutch Trick Styler! The bike handles great, which is more than can be said for the rider! Following an April debut, I've had another 7 races at 2 tracks, made a lot of new friends and generally had a blast, with the exception of a dislocated and fractured shoulder suffered back in July!

Here's the parts rundown:-

Frame: Crupi Pro XL (6061 T6 seamless drawn and ovalised aluminium tubing)
Forks: Sinz Stealth Pro alloy
Headset: Promax PI-1 sealed
Stem: Promax Impact
Handlebars: Box Maximus Pro
Grips: Turner lock-on
Brake lever: Sinz
Brake caliper: Sinz
Brake pads: Promax
Seat post clamp: Crupi Rhythm quick-release
Seat post: Crupi alloy
Seat: Crupi Titanium-Lite
Cranks: Promax HF-2 (175mm)
BB: Promax EX-1 sealed (Euro)
Chainring: Renthal SR4 Ultralite (44T)
Pedals: VP 566
Chain: KMC Z
Chain tensioners: Promax C-1
Wheelset: Generic, double-walled, alloy rims (20" x 1.75") and hubs (with 16T freewheel)
Tyres: Maxxis DTH (20" x 1.75")
Number Plate: Box (not shown)

I've a few changes and upgrades to make over the New Year but for the moment, this is my BOTY!

#551874 CRAP at the SWAP (bike pics)

Posted by Mikku on 30 August 2017 - 08:47 AM

I love this thread, so on a recent trip to the States, I just had to stop the car when I saw this sign! There were a few bikes but nothing of interest, though tbh I was happy enough attending my first swap meet!

#551789 JP BMX time line and what's their relation to Crupi?

Posted by Mikku on 02 August 2017 - 11:51 PM

Found another JP ad, this time in an April 1996 BMX PLUS mag. The previous two I posted were in April and October '95 editions respectively.

Legit or not, I'm not sure I'd post something on FB if it was meant to be a surprise!!

#551298 Interesting Addicks mod!

Posted by Mikku on 31 May 2017 - 11:00 AM

Went to an old school bmx meet in Tokyo on Sunday and spotted a sweet-looking Redline with an interesting use of an Addicks seat post clamp. I'd never seen this mod before, so thought I'd share it on here:-

#551194 JP BMX time line and what's their relation to Crupi?

Was doing a bit of research on JP stuff and found this thread, so apologies in advance for resurrecting it but thought that these two ads from some 1995 BMX Plus mags would be a useful addition for future reference.

#551193 Starting Gate Pics - "Random gates"

Posted by Mikku on 16 May 2017 - 01:24 PM

Mid-school rather than old school, but I recently snapped these two start gate shots from some 1995 BMX Plus mags. The first shows Greg Romero (#1) and Todd Lyons (#7) and the second is from an NBL National at Orlando, FL.

#550675 Where is everyone?

Posted by Mikku on 17 March 2017 - 12:04 AM

I'm not a long-time member but whilst traffic may have slowed down, this site has stuff (and an atmosphere) that is not replicated (or perhaps appreciated) elsewhere. As such, I think it will continue to have a place on people's favourites list, as it does on mine, and I will continue to check in and post.

#550491 Ross MX-Time

Posted by Mikku on 13 February 2017 - 10:38 AM

A few months later than planned, my MX-Time is now done. I'll submit it to the bikes database later but I've attached a few pics below for the benefit of this thread!

I also want to change what I said above about Tange serials! My understanding now is that a T-serial means that the frame was made/fabricated/welded up by another Japanese company, Tokyo Kogyo, who made frames for various companies bitd including, most famously, Kuwahara. So my Laserlite, which has a T3-serial was made by Tokyo Kogyo in 1983 using Tange tubing whereas this Ross, with its T2-serial, was made by Tokyo Kogyo in 1982 using Ishiwata tubing.
