  1. i think I speak for everybody here when I say think carefully before you sell it. It's your childhood bike and once it's gone it's gone. Ask most people on here which bike they could have if they could choose anything and i'd say that most of us would ask for our childhood bikes back.
  2. I read an interview with Harry Leary from around 1982 and he said that he was on the equivalent of forty thousand pounds (in U.S dollars) a year. That would be a very solid working wage NOW in England! Back in 1982 it would have been a fortune! Just goes to show the sheer scale of BMX in the Sates back in the day. It was huge in the U.K of course, but we never had that sort of coin involved. As for winning Trans ams? Forget it!
  3. Thanks for the response Joe. Always nice to learn these finer details.
  4. Just wanted to check in with people who know far more about these things than I do. Seen this post on the ebay and just wanted a second opinion before I start bidding. I'm wary of the Bay because i'm pretty sure (after finding out on here) that an Elina post I got on it is fake. So...Anyone know the seller? Price sound right? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Se-Racing-Seat-Post-Pk-Ripper-Nomura-Jmc-Race-Inc-Hutch-Cook-Bros-Racing-/261964452025?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3cfe4c50b9 I hope it's ok to post links like this.
  5. Just a change of topic, the welding on early Redlines was just immaculate. Those before shots show what sweet welds were on those bikes.
  6. Oh yeah and the chrome forks are singing sweet music to me.
  7. That's crazy nice. I think the blue cranks and chainwheel look amazing and really make it for me. The bars, what are we talking 10 inch rise Powerwings? also look pretty good but I can appreciate that you'd prefer to change them just to make things a bit more consistent, as they did come later. I'm not feeling the love for the plate so much but not to the point where i'd say take it off. Just not feeling it quite as much as I am the rest of the bike. Whatever. Awesome.
  8. Yeah that's looking nice. The blue and gold colour combo works great.
  9. Incredible. They say that one man's trash is another man's treasure but that's just nuts. The old owners would sure kick themselves if they knew the value of the stuff they were throwing away. That red Goose is just amazing. A worthy entry into the BOTY survivor category.
  10. I like to use a product called KY JELLY, IT LUBES REALLY NICE AND MAKES THINGS MORE PLIABLE... oH,OH, WE ARE TALKING ABOUT TIRES?? NEVERMIND.... Haha! I had to laugh at that!!! But this is something i've been wondering about for a while. Is tire maintenance something we should all be doing regularly and is dry rot gonna happen one way or another over time? Do tires last better on a wheel or left alone in a box? Crazy to think of us all with bikes with no original tires on them ten or twenty years down the line.
  11. I love the close up shot of the front end. That welding is immaculate.
  12. Not sure if they're re-pops or just cheap copies which you could but bitd. Actually had one myself as a kid, as they we're, not suprisingly, much cheaper ythan the real thing. Either way, definately not the real deal and shouldn't be listed as such.
  13. Good question because I don't think that as a kid, I could have explained it in any way other than having a great time on a bike that I loved. Upon reflection I think that a main attraction was the fact that BMX was the first thing, outside my family, that I belonged to. BMX mobilized a generation in a way that nothing, in my opinion, has done since. Riding out on your bike and seeing other kids doing the same created a sub-culture that belonged to us and that we all contributed to in a small way. BMX provided the ultimate common ground and there was nothing like riding into a skate park filled with kids with a mutual love for our sport.
  14. I think you've really achieved what you set out to do there, whih is capture a very authentic look. That's a ride that I could have seen kicking around the park thirty years ago.
