  1. I think I may have measured wrong I think the fork tube is 21.1I do not have the stem yet so I did not verify the mis-fitment. It makes no sense that a stem and a fork from the same period and that were so popular in bmx would not be compatible. So my next issue is the seat post. I ordered a 7/8" fluted seat post. and it only goes in as far as the spread in the frame tube. the mid to late 70's must have had a narrower opening then 7/8"live and learn.
  2. OK I have a tange tx 500 fork and I was trying to find a tuff neck for it. I was told tuff neck never made a stem that would fit the 22.2 opening of the fork tube. just 21.1mm tubes if this is fact What stem will work? I dont want to use a plain old stem if possible. this is for my panda build so I want to keep all parts late 70,s to maybe 81. Thanks in advance. Dave.
  3. This project is over 4 years in the making. This is the bike from my childhood built the way I would have built it had I had the funds. Mine had a second hand black tuff wheel on the back with a heavy spoked wheel on the front it was mottled together with other more fortunate kids disregarded or deeply discounted parts. Even the original frame I horse traded an old no name frame for. I picked this frame up on the bay about 4 years ago and have explained the journey elsewhere on this forum. I will try to pull the whole story together as one and I will try to get some better pictures of the flyer. I bought the 2 sets of grips before I bought the bars. I was going with a red/gold yellow theme so was not sure if I was going with gold or red bars so I will use the yellow grips on the red bars. This is the frame I bought on ebay looks ugly but it was straight, Ding-less and solid. I am working on the decals now.
  4. Got the key ingredient (the Frame) back from the Body shop today. Now just going to carefully put the whole puzzle together.
  5. does anyone know if tuf neck ever had this T-N oval sticker on them? this is an ad from October 78. was it an early attempt at branding prior to the tiger decals and finally stamping them? I have never seen it before.
  6. Nice, they work fine from what I have clicked. The good news is I shold be able to find my answers With these old Mags. The bad news I fear I will get no work done this week browsing all this vintage print!!!!
  7. Those Ourys are new, that prismatic sticker is an easy giveaway. About 80/81 the mold seemed to have changed where they added the ribs in the flange area. Someone told me they thought the same mold was still in use today. But, same grip today as 30 years ago. Here are some unribbed yellows next to current red, ribbed Ourys. Ourys2.jpg Besides a couple sets on bars for sale on eBay, these are the only colors of Ourys I've been able to find unribbed in 5+ years. Ourys1.jpg Thanks for clearing that up I did not realize the ribs were even there to be honest.
  8. Hope to have this restoed this summer to ride as a bmx cruiser. Since it is below zero all snowy and iced up my Main ride is my 2012 Sahara. in winter mode. and in summer mode. My Toy ride is My RzR-S / snow pusher. In Winter mode: in Summer trail mode: as we get older we still need toys. Just bigger faster ones!!
  9. Thank you for this I have been looking for some sort of reference for a while with my build to and this is a huge help.
  10. The Oury Waffle pattern grips are what I had on my 77 Panda. I rode mine up to 1981 but am pretty darn sure they were in that 76-78 era correct range. I bought these for my restore I am working on just deciding on what color to use.
  11. Dave Walter 47 grew up on Whidbey Island WA. Moved To Dickinson, ND when I was 16. An Abrupt end to Skate and BMX fun as I knew it.
  12. So the 4130 would be the chromoly frame? Yes. 4130 chromoly....yours is 1010 mild steel. I am thinking it is now about a 1005 mildly rusted steel!!!
  13. Wes is a great guy. Super down to earth. I have been fortunate to work on a few custom things with him.
