  1. BEAUTIFUL!!! Obviously the chrome put down on that steel over 35 years ago is still holding up and looks damn good! So I've got to ask, the gusset at the head was that welded in later? Mine never had that. The weak spot on the two I had was where the top tube and the seat post tube joined. I am still trying to remember what type of forks mine had, Cook Bros maybe? Back in the day if it said Cook Bros it was never cheap. Thanks for sharing.
  2. Glad you enjoyed the photo. Interesting observation, not sure, maybe I tied a cloth around my ankle because my sock had no more elastic left, not sure. I had my share of designer bicycle chain holed ripped pants in those days. Even though it is hidden from view, I think I was sporting a brand new Addicks sprocket. We called them "plastic sprockets" though they were far from plastic. Looking at an old ad they were made from "Millardium, a super tough blend of Dupont Zytel with Teflon and Silicone added." Not sure about their claim of being "almost indestructible" as myself and my buddies on more than one occasion turned them into taco shaped sprockets. I also remember my home made rear brake bracket on that frame. Guaranteed to move around and come undone with minimal brake usage. This was back when "freewheel" hubs were first being used and some of the frame manufacturers had not yet welded on rear brake braces. Free wheeling no stress days, riding around everywhere and BMX races at Van Nuys I think on Wednesday nights. Yep, miss those days. Of course, growing up ain't too bad, this is the kind of two wheel riding I do now...
  3. New here. Just found this old photo of me and my White Lightning back in 1977, location Simi Valley, California and thought some folks might get a kick out of it. Photo was probably taken summer of 1977 at the Simi Valley track. I was scheduled for knee surgery so my father loaded up myself and my buddy Marv with his Gary Littlejohn to run around the Simi Track for a couple of hours. Not sure how he got the two bicycles in his new 1977 Chevrolet Caprice Classic but he did. I'll never forget that we had such a blast. I don't think the Simi Valley Track lasted too much longer after that. Unfortunately the White Lightning regardless of the hype given to it by BMX Action magazine and in all its chrome beauty wasn't all it was cracked up to be. I ended up cracking the frame in the photo and my father returrned it directly to White Lightning. He said they were really nice folks and they were nice enough to give me a replacement blue anodized frame model. Unfortunately that second frame cracked not long after. I don't think White Lightning was around much long after that. I eventually ended up with a beautiful chrome Torker in 1978 and raced that at the Van Nuys Youth Center. Those were excellent times. Enjoy.
