1981 Champion 26" Cruiser


This is an all original third generation Champion three bar cruiser. It came to me as an original finish and decals frame and fork. I could not resist building it up as you see it now, with red parts. I hope you guys like the build.


Everything is 100% original finish and decals.

I found this in 1991 out of the recycler and it's been a rider ever since.

1980 Cook Bros. Custom Cruiser 


This frame was custom made in 1980 for Jim Curwood, a longtime friend of Gary Cook. Jim worked for Laguna Distributors in the mid 70's and soon after opened his own bike shop, South County Cyclery aka "Buy My Bikes" in south Orange County which is still open today. 

All the finish is original and done by Jim Cunningham at CyclArt in San Diego. First the dropouts were chromed and paint fade was applied, the frame then went back to Cook Bros in Santa Ana to have the solvent transfer Cruiser decal applied to the middle bar. The frame then returned to CyclArt to be shot with pearl and finally clear coat. From there it traveled straight back to Santa Ana where Gary Cook took the frame on tour to be displayed with him at the trade shows to promote the new CBR Cruisers. After about a year, Jim Curwood got his frame back, built it up, and displayed it in his shop. 
According to Jim, a jeweler from Laguna Beach would come to his shop and beg him to sell the bike for years. Eventually the bike was traded to the jeweler for a 1,200 dollar diamond. In the early 90's the frame & fork surfaced in a Laguna Beach bike shop and was purchased by a surfboard shaper out of Huntington Beach and locked in a shipping container along with several other cruisers. In early 2014 I was introduced by a buddy to this local surfboard shaper and purchased the frame & fork. 
I brought the frame back to South County Cyclery, met with original owner Jim Curwood and he shared with me the history of the frame and explained the purpose of the custom guides was for use with a Sturmey Archer drum hub. It still retains the CyclArt water transfer decal and Jim's shop decal with his name on it. Because the frame itself has so much color I built it with non-colored parts to let the frame do all the talkin'. Enjoy!

1980 Schwinn King Sting - One of Only 10 Built With Factory Chrome by Schwinn

This is my 1980 extremely rare King Sting Prototype 1 of only 10 manufactured by Schwinn as a sales rep frames.


Everything is 100% original finish and all the decals are original (except for the handlebar and chain stay decals which are OEM).



This is an extremely rare prototype King Sting from 1980. This frame is 1 of 10 chrome prototype King Stings made by Marc Muller of the out Waterford plant (now Paramount bikes). There are no other King Stings that were originally chromed except for these 10 prototypes. These prototypes were never intended to be sold to the public. The serial number is MR814781. This King Sting was provided as a frame for Schwinn reps to show to local Southeast Schwinn dealers in 1981. The original dealer decal is still on the seat tube, “Bobs Cycle Shop…Rome GA”. This was a once in a lifetime score for Schwinn or diehard BMX cruiser collectors so I grabbed it. This was one of the last true American made Schwinns built using the old school brazing techniques as originallly used at Schwinn before inventing their electro-forging process in the 1950s. The fillet brazing is exceptional and goes beyond the regular quality of the regular painted King Stings. It is a true museum piece for the Schwinn aficionado.


Overall condition is excellent. The chrome is a 9 out of 10…really exceptional for 34 years. This bike never sat outside. It has NOT been polished or thoroughly cleaned.


This is a rare piece of Schwinn and BMX history.

This is by far my favorite bike. Acquiring it was quite an adventure. This thing popped up on the old interweb. The original owner posted it, just to share and then decided he would contemplate selling it. I commented on what a beautiful bike it was. I didn’t bother asking if it was for sale. The next day he mentioned in the thread he would consider selling it. I didn’t hesitate then and jumped all over it.
It was not an easy sale, the original owner did not have a paypal and was not keen on shipping. That made it difficult to finalize the deal. At the end, the only way to get the bike was to go the Minneapolis and pick it up in person. That’s exactly what I did. I have zero regrets.
Upon arriving in Minneapolis I called him and confirmed the time we were to meet. I was about 3 miles from his house , I called and let him know. He tells me to meet him at the Taco Bell, his phone minutes are almost up and he has to go. I thought this deal was not going to happen. I find the closest Taco Bell and hope it’s the right one.
I park and patiently wait. No one is driving in, Im not feeling good now. I get out of the car and wait by the front doors , nothing. I look to my right and he is riding the bike , I’m starting to feel good about the deal. He rides passed me , about 10’ away, goes down the parking , busts a uturn and parks in front of me. Doesn’t say hello, just gets off the bike and says “Take her for a ride”. Wow , what a delivery.
The guy turns out to be super cool. We strip the bike in the Taco Bell parking lot and I give him a ride home. Happy times……..
This was a one owner bike. I purchased it complete but changed some parts to my liking. Original to the bike are the frame , forks, uniclamp, top tube pad and the wheels. The original Cook Bros.number plate is being shipped to me as I type this. The paint and decals are original. This thing has logged plenty of miles on our SoCal beaches. Enjoy.

1979 DG Vulcan Cruiser


I raced a DG Vulcan Cruiser in 1979 to mid 1980 against racers riding Koz, Powerlites, OM Flyers and GTs 26" cruisers. The bike has a long wheelbase compared to the other cruisers. The bike didn't handle very well compared to the Koz and the GTs. They were not a very popular race bike so with that said that is why it is such a rare bike today.

Built by Dave Gilkeson on 10/12/1981 and was heat treated nad buffed out before being sold to NE BMX on 11/30/1981 (Info from Route66)

It was later anodized by a well know member and OG decals put back on the frame

I added parts to complete a cool rider for me albeit not too practical

26” Schwinn "Super" Typhoon


This was my father in-laws old cruiser, he bought it originally in 1962, The twin straight bar design was only made for 1 year. His grandson wrecked the bike pretty bad on the way to the store. The forks, grips, pedals, front wheel, fender and tire were all toast. The following week I asked my father in-law about the cruiser and he said he took it in for repairs but they told him just to buy a new one. They even offered a partial trade-in for this old bike but he said "I knew you would make something super out of it. So, here I want you to have it". I happily obliged, "YES, and so the Super Typhoon project was born....


I thought about how to proceed with the build for months, I've always liked the "Cal-Cruiser" look from the late 70's early 80's so that became my era of this project. It also had to be moto and look race ready, like it's gonna rip through you while you're just standing there.. like a Super Typhoon! A plan was hatched to build a 80's moto-cruiser out of mostly used parts and the salvaged 1962 Typhoon frame. It started off well and then I had some set backs so the project was put on the back burner. I recently got inspired to finish a few projects and I wanted this to be the first one I completed, so here it is.
