Ken or Michael, what tires are on the '75/'76 Goose in the "full bike pic" shown in the old catalogue? I thought they were Carlisle Aggressors... :Idunno:

http://www.vintagemo...se_cat76-77.pdf

Those are the Carlisle Aggressor MX (not to be confused with the MX-200 and MX-300). It took me about two years to find the ones on my Mongoose. After that I was able to come up with a couple of others that are now on other bikes.

Most people used them as a front tire with a Cheng Shin on back. I personally liked them on the rear.

Good used Aggressor MX usually go for over $100. NOS over $200....each.

I had never seen an Aggressor on the rear until that pic. Weird.

I'd put the NOS price at $300+ and with minty ones at $250+. Well-used seem to fetch $60-70ish.

Those Carlisle Skinlites are wild!

Never did see them as a kid.

The funny thing about the Aggressor is how many modern tires look like it, in the mnt bike tires.

.02 and great thread!

I have them on the front and rear on my 74 Squareback. They did mix and match them back in the day but I've seen a lot of bikes with them on both the front and rear.

They were factory equipment on the 75 Goose but the 76's had the C-183's

Aggressors were originally designed as a rear tire only. Anyone who has ever stuffed his bike at speed into a typical dusty So-Cal berm will tell you why :)

Here's some fat tire examples

Yeah, I believe that. I think they corner terrible on the front. Especially on hard stuff. I've always been a fan of front (and rear, for that matter) tires with a round profile and you don't get much more square than the Aggressor.

They sure look cool on the front though. And, as we all know, everyone in the late-1970s into the mid-1980s who used them put it on the front. Leary, Miller, Stu, Darrel. . .It was on their bikes where I saw them first and remember them from.

In my mind, it's always been a front tire. Burly and super cool looking, but kind of sucky.

Great thread. More than a few I hadn't seen before.

Built my Mongoose with two 2.125 blue Comp II tyres. This front one then became a rear when I bought a new Comp III for the front. Why is it weird I can remember that and not stuff I was taught at school?

The "Go Getter" Michelin Man logo was used from 1970 - 1998. That is all I've come up with so far.
